AL.com Candidate Comparison

Madison is at a crossroads. As our city grows, so do the demands on our schools, roads, and public services. The question isn’t whether these investments are necessary, it’s how we pay for them responsibly. Too often, the conversation around growth gets stuck on symptoms like traffic congestion or classroom space. But the real issue is resources.

Right now, Madison collects significantly less sales tax per resident than many comparable cities in Alabama. That means fewer dollars available for infrastructure, parks, and education—even though our residents have some of the highest household incomes and strongest housing values in the state. The problem isn’t the strength of our community, it’s that too much of our spending leaks into surrounding cities.

My vision is to change that. By expanding local retail opportunities, ensuring Madison gets its fair share of online sales tax revenue, and making city finances more transparent and accessible, we can increase resources without raising taxes. This isn’t just fiscal strategy—it’s about building a stronger, more sustainable Madison for the long term.
